'morning good $daytime Jesse heya leo. (It's actually early afternoon for me ;) I'm not going to be around this evening. I've just poked chromatic to cover for me. if neither chromatic nor I are around, folks should report in alphabetical order by irc nick ;) i've noted that too, jesse. anything for you to report? Poked my friend at ibm/rational a bit more. she's poking harder at some licenses for chip. Not much is new for me on the parrot front. Pugs' parrot target has been bitrotting some as parrot has been so active of late. if there's anybody who's bored, that could be an interesting target to hack on i can replay that later, thanks. thanks here's jonathan: I have a friend visiting me and am taking him for dinner on Tuesday, so won't be able to make the Parrot Sketch this week. Here's my report for you to replay. * Gave a talk on virtual machines at my local LUG; talked about Parrot somewhat. * Found time at the weekend to start work on the bytecode PDD. Documented what is there now and incorporated various past change ideas and some other thoughts. Mailed to Chip and Allison, will get more stuff done in the coming week on this and try and get something checked in for wider review. * Chatted with vsoni a bit more about BCG stuff; we're somewhat blocking on POST being specified. Thanks for leading the meetings! Jonathan ~ ~ % pmichaud has joined #parrotsketch % allison has joined #parrotsketch % chromatic has joined #parrotsketch It's almost time! hi chromatic, @all % Coke has joined #parrotsketch Alright, I have the hour. Let's go in alphabetical order: allison, chip, Coke, leo, particle, pmichaud, tewk, and then questions. I have Jonathan's report, so I'll start. * Gave a talk on virtual machines at my local LUG; talked about Parrot somewhat. * Found time at the weekend to start work on the bytecode PDD. That's it. Allison? I've been reviewing a draft of Jonathan's Bytecode PDD. Quite good, and I'm about to send him back comments. I also neglected to type my report in advance, and that's all I remember at the moment. EOR Chip? % mdiep has joined #parrotsketch No Chip right now. Coke?
  • add JSON compiler (smash++ for the tests)
  • build process fixes. Currently attempting to kill dynoplibs.pl and replace it with actual make rules.
Leo? * improved and fixed httpd.pir - there was a buggy to_string functions, which returned a reversed result - argh * implemented asynchronous select calls in parrot (read currently only) * created httpd2.pir using that - works nicely * httpd2 is actually now using the ['HTTP'; {'Daemon','Message', ...} classes * due to async select, it is able to write a logfile during idle time * ci'ed apps/p3 - basics of Parrot Presentation Program * fixed apple's PIO_unix_bind() failure along during coding (it was basically an OS/X error, which needs workaround in socket code) * did also more cleanup in the unix socket code (I discovered that io_win32 duplicates all of the socket code (with minor differences) ^D Matt? I don't have too much time atm because school started last week. I'm mainly implementing easy things here and there so I can make some progress and stay up to date. Bigger changes (including dynop experiments) will happen when I have more time. ^D Particle? last week, i: ~ added coding standard tests to t/codingstd/ (many are failing) ~ worked with coke++ on json grammar, also fixes to tewk++'s c99 grammar, and leo++'s p3 ~ added some pge tests ~ started draft of pge pdd ~ reviewed chromatic++'s Parrot::Embed, but haven't provided feedback. basically i recommend committing to parrot repo, and i'll do windows fixups there. then it can be released to the world. ~ overall, i need some time to devote in a large chunk to parrot (i also have obra's report, for later.) .end Patrick? * Unfortunately, real-life (family) and $job have prevented me from getting much parrot work done. * But, those are out of the way now. * I know all are anxious to see refactors, and we should have that soon. * I've decided that instead of creating a branch, or trying to coordinate multip le languages, we'll just do the tge and past refactors in the languages/perl6/ space * This way languages and tools using the existing tge won't be affected. * The refactors will be kept as separate tools inside of perl6/, so that people can start using them immediately * When enough languages have converted to the new tool suite, we can migrate it out of the perl6/ directory into its own set of compilers/* directories. * I think much/most of this will happen within the week. EOR Kevin? Checked in c99 PGE Grammar. It includes preprocessing directives. I have some c99 optok questions for pmichaud, but want TGE to get first priority:) Checked in BEGIN and END block support for Cardinal. Ruby has some syntax that is context sensitive :(. So I'm looking into dealing with that. EOR (I'd like to go ahead and get the c99 questions; I could use some "quick wins") Okay, go ahead with questions. i have news from obray I'm write them up in an email. tewk: that'd be great tewk: or you can ask me on #parrot -- whatever works (obra's report?) 1006:12| obra: 01Poked my friend at ibm/rational a bit more. she's poking harder at some licenses for chip. 1006:12| obra: 01Not much is new for me on the parrot front. 1006:12| obra: 01Pugs' parrot target has been bitrotting some as parrot has been so active of late. if there's anybody who's bored, that could be an interesting target to hack on EOR chromatic, do you have your own report? EOR % spinclad has left spinclad!~rhale@209-94-133-172.c3-0.bkl-ubr2.sbo-bkl.ma.cable.rcn.com chromatic: what do you think about committing Parrot::Embed as-is? or would you rather see it go straight to cpan when ready? I'll check it in ASAP. great, i'll do the initial quick fixups today % smash has joined #parrotsketch Ask questions! is anyone blocking on me? is everyone having fun? No. Yes. i *love* writing grammar parsers. it's a lot of fun. does that make me sick? not at all; I love it also. :-) it's great to have such a cool language to do it in. indeed. if only that language were perl6 ;) ummmm, it is * pmichaud is fairly sure that "rule" and "regex" are part of Perl 6 :-) and token % smash has left #parrotsketch anybody know the next scheduled release date? chip? % spinclad has joined #parrotsketch % chromatic has left chromatic!~chromatic@70.103.152.82 ENOCHIP The answer is "Soon", since it's been over a month.
