Allison, you get to go first. =-) - I've wrapped up events, but I've left it turned off for the 0.5.1 release. - After the release, I'll turn on the new concurrency scheduler, switch low-level signal handling over to the concurrency scheduler, and turn off the old event handling runloop. - I've completed a draft of the Multiple Dispatch PDD, which I'll commit after the release. EOR Thanks. I'll go next... Worked on the status of deprecation documentation this week; got it in in time for the release, so there will be plenty of things we can safely rip out as soon as the release is cut. Started updating the ROADMAP document again. Talked with petdance about internal vs. external ROADMAPs; he seems very eager to help out on the external side. EOR jhorwitz? (then jonathan, particle, perljam) for those that i missed last week, got mod_plumhead working, so we have PHP running under mod_parrot % chromatic has joined #parrotsketch i'm *almost* able to write mod_perl6 in pure perl6. just need namespaces. wrote a tiny patch to fix the copy opcode compilation problems on debian's broken gcc. that'd be a nice christmast present.... EOR Found brain cycles, time and energy to hack on Parrot again... * Been working on the release today. 3 RC's and some fixes later, I'm happy enough with it to release it. A few unexpected successes, but I'd rather leave it that way than untodo them when I don't know what platforms they are going to fail on. * Started trying to figure out the Perl 6 compiler. In the process, implemented 'rand', postcircumfix ( ) and { } (so hash access works now), being able to say things like &foo.arity(), and the first little bits of junctions (parsing, creating, .pick, .values). * Having fun, hoping real life stays out of the way for a while. EOR ~ punie: added subcalls, argument passing, got demo.p1 working for perl's bday and parrot's release perl6: ~ applied some perl6 patches by perljam++ and fglock++ -- it's fabulous to see the ranks of perl6 developers grow so quickly ~ added for statements, pointy subs, use (somewhat faked), pod comments .end all shiny. =-) chromatic? I added the copy opcode and decided I hate Debian's GCC. I fixed up all of the failing tests I could find, and there were a lot of them in the benchmark examples. I did some minor cleanups, too. That's all. rdice? I'm not here. :-) EOR (tied up in a real life meeting right now) anyone who is NOT patrick have a report? my report is ready oh, alright. =-) * Helped with punie development. * Refactored PCT::HLLCompiler to have a saner set of stages, removed $ostgrammar. * Fixed up PAST::Val nodes so that HLLs can more readily how to specify constants in PIR. * Fixed up :slurpy attribute on PAST::Var parameters. * Added a token to PCT::Grammar. * Fixed up infix: and infix: to not rely on cmp_str. * Helped a bit with release. perl6: * All 01-sanity tests pass! (particle++) * Added object infrastructure to perl6 so that .WHAT, types, protoobjects, and .HOW work. * Got multisubs working again. * Got END blocks working, and prototyped BEGIN blocks. * Got regexes working again. * Worked around the :method-not-in-namespace issue from PGE regexes. EOR This seems like a particularly busy week for everyone; I hope we can keep up this pace for a while. =-) Anyone have any questions, as long as we're all here? When can we start deleting deprecated features? right after JW ships the release when the release listed in DEPRECATED.pod is cut. so, make sure it says 0.5.1 (or 0.5.0) and then start ripping. Please claim the RT ticket if you are working on one of them, though. btw, perl 5.10.0 is out today It was an oblique question about "When's the release, Jonathan?" The .tar.gz is all ready, just gotta hit pause with it. :-) Then press releases, blah. no, hit PLAY! * particle *groans* * jonathan hits Coke instead if the .tgz is ready and we're sure of no more updates, I don't see a problem with breaking trunk -now-. (it's nice that the press releases are so automated) % fglock_ has joined #parrotsketch reminder: allison & chromatic have rights to update the website; send any update patches or requests to *OUR* ticket tracker, not webmaster@perl.org allison & chromatic & Coke have rights to update the website, you slacker. :) (the 0.5.0 release ended up getting announced that day, and then 2 weeks later, updated again by Robrt based on the ticket.) pmichaud: Any questions? I can usually count on you for something for perl6... =-) no questions from me today -- my plate runneth over lots of great commits from jonathan, fglock, particle, etc. woot. others are welcome to join the patch party and perljam, too right, and perljam i'll be showing off punie/nqp/pct and maybe perl6 tonight at seattle.pm I need to start playing with the copy opcode (chromatic++ for that) particle: if you want mod_perl6 URLs to show off, let me know and then it's time to dive back into the pugs test suite jhorwitz++ for making it compile. =-) jhorwitz: that'd be spiffy I'll be writing another journal post today, apologies in advance if I miss anyone in terms of great work done sincem y last post. There has been *so much* progress this past week might be nice to forward those to Andy at perlbuzz too, if you can handle the buzz effect. Alrightee, unless anyone has anything else, I'm calling it. =-) so, with all the pending changes, does anybody expect toe-stepping, or can we all modify parrot in harmony? oh, and when's the next meeting? whoops! good catch. =-) ah, we should skip christmas I vote we skip a week. we always have #parrot and the mailing list. I'm good with meeting on new years day so, we'll meet 1 jan I'll be at a hackathon that day anyway. :-) I'll likely be away 1 jan, but you all can meet w/o me. I'll post my updates to journal/mailing list i'll let you know if i'll be around works for me. I'll send out an announcement unless someone beats me to it. kthx OK, release tagged, hit the trunk, folks. jonathan++ * spinclad goes off to play with the new token. jonathan++ # Thanks again for taking the release today!
