I'm in merry mad finisher mode, locked in the office. Priorities are security PDD, PMC implementation branch, and concurrency implementation (will be creating a branch), in that order. EOR barney? Back to Parrot, after getting started as a freelancer and temporarily relocating to Darmstadt. Nothing else to report. .eor I worked on the PMC PDD (and found a spot that needed Allison's approval before proceeding). I found what I think is the Big Problem in the GC, and Bob Rogers and I have a plan for it. I'm doing some profiling and optimization now and hope to speed up UTF-8 somewhat... 10% so far, hopefully a bit more. jhorwitz? * Tene is present. at particle's request, working on mod_lolcode. jmcadams wants to do a perlcast interview re: mod_parrot. should be fun. EOR jonathan? Mostly just hacking on Rakudo. No particular thing, mostly bits of OO stuff and other odds and ends. Doing some conferences. Spoke at UPW, which went well. Co-presented a Perl 6 tutorial with Andrew Shitov. DPW next, and then I'm back to the usual $DAYJOB. Hmm...nothing much else to speak of. .eor kj? I worked on languages/c99; it didn't run before, but is now, and it can compile a Hello World program. The grammar is rather complex, will take quite some work for PIR stub generation for NCIs. with compile, I mean compile and run. .end particle? ~ helped with release, pmichaud++ ~ some progress on a yaml dumper. yaml_dumper.pir is available, but not quite working for PAST yet ~ rakudo: . more updates to perl6doc . removed deprecated compiler directives from grammar . some work on zev++'s patch for perl 6 runtime libraries, still working out bugs before committing .end pmichaud? * Presented on Perl 6 and Parrot at FOSDEM 2008 (Brussels) * slides available at http://www.pmichaud.com/2008/pres/fosdem-perl6/ * Also going to write about it in use.perl tonight * ... and other articles as well * Released 0.5.3 ("Way of the Parrot") * That seems to have gone well * A few CPAN module ownership issues, but nothing major * Reviewed a few tickets, applied some, decided to wait on others until after release * Reviewed patches to rakudo * Started to implement ".foo" as shortcut for "$_.foo" this weekend, then discovered that jonathan++ beat me to it * Wrote a short patch to get upcase/downcase to work for the Latin-1 subset of Unicode, which enables us to do a few more things in Rakudo * Will apply the upcase/downcase patch a bit later * Hopefully moving Rakudo to utf-8 source won't slow it down too much EOR rgrjr? not much to say; had a cold for most of the past two weeks. last weekend I got a bit further on the GC problems that have been killing me for months, but it's progress of the 2-steps-forward-1-step-back variety. I have much reading to do before i'll be much use in GC-land. (and i can hardly wait to hear this plan chromatic says we cooked up. ;-) .eor Tene? Committed lolcode fixes that have been pending. Got function definition and calls, including parameters, to work in cardinal. Broke MANIFEST. I've been solicited to give a Parrot talk at Penguicon. .eor tewk? anyone else I missed? Let's go to question time then. Are there any questions? I have one. Are the GC problems any better today than they were on Friday? chromatic: no data, but i can get back to you. Thanks! Any blockers? blocking on time same trying to inspire others to do work, so i can still be helpful somehow :) Sounds like it's time to adjourn. Talk to you all next week. What are the goals for Parrot 0.6.0, the March release ? iirc, 0.6 was to represent the new pmc implementation we don't tie release numbers to dates, but we were targeting february release for 0.6. oops! We tied milestones to dates, which reminds me that our milestone document is probably somewhat out of date. see http://www.perlfoundation.org/parrot/index.cgi?release_planning since the new pmc impl didn't make it in time for the feb release, I chose 0.5.3 instead of 0.6.0 I think we do the same for march -- it's more important that release numbers match features than dates 0.6 was for exceptions and ast implementations, per that url s/was/is/ okay, I was mistaken then and should've probably released at 0.6 *as exceptions still needs to move over to the new concurrency scheduler so, you were right to delay it ah, good and, agreed, getting the releases out the door every month matters more than what we number them we'll likely need to review that url, because i suspect 0.6 will be quite featurefull well, the release managers can collectively update it March 28th on http://www.perlfoundation.org/parrot/index.cgi?release_schedule_2008 is probably a type s/ype/ypo/ yep, should be 18 changed Talk to you all next week! see you next week % chromatic has left #parrotsketch % rgrjr has left rgrjr!~user@c-98-216-94-251.hsd1.ma.comcast.net % parrot-poke has joined #parrotsketch % parrot-poke has left #parrotsketch % jhorwitz has left #parrotsketch % kj has left #parrotsketch % schmalbe has joined #parrotsketch % barney has left barney!~bernhard@dslb-084-058-177-183.pools.arcor-ip.net % jonathan has left #parrotsketch % allison has left #parrotsketch % schmalbe has left schmalbe!~bernhard@dslb-084-058-165-149.pools.arcor-ip.net % particle is now known as technicolor_yawn % technicolor_yawn is now known as musical_fruit % musical_fruit is now known as particle
