Not much to report for me; I'm still poking at PIR profiling. I think I have an approach that will work at least with Devel::DProf-style output. Sounds good. I look forward to seeing that. Allison? * allison on the phone, come back I'll go sure. * continuing to hack on PHPArray out of svn % rgrjr has joined #parrotsketch * still waiting for legal fun to be resolved * branching out and becoming progressively more impressed at scope of parrot eor Danke. Infinoid? * fixed a couple issues in Parrot::Revision for git and git-svn (yes, people use both) * fixed a config issue with p5 Config.pm and ".../" (its interpreted; see 5.10.0's perldelta) * some patch mongering. wknight8111++ wolverian++ kraai++ 1; Thanks. jonathan? * Slowly easing back into things * Reviewed cognominal++'s patch and applied bits of it * Done a little more work on colonpairs * Going to the Oslo Hackathon, and will hopefully get a good chunk of Rakudo and/or Parrot hacking done there EOR * barney jumps in go ahead. Released Parrot 0.6.0. Made imcc.y code layout more consistent .eor Thanks for cutting the release! kid51? Mostly working on old RTs. Fixed some problems with manifest tests that Barney uncovered during release. Negotiating to get an account on a Solaris box so that I can test on that system. Renamed one config step and associated tests. Hoping to work with allison re problems in Darwin hints module. eor Thanks. kj(s)? Finished the Parrot Compiler Tools tutorial. It's 9 episodes in which a complete language is implemented. See parrotblog.org a short look at trying to get the NQP actions written in NQP running. Got most of it working, but not everything is finished yet, but it's a start. % allison_ has joined #parrotsketch .eor % allison has left allison!~chatzilla@sub17-30.member.dsl-only.net Thanks for the articles! % allison_ is now known as allison particle's report is in scrollback. pmichaud? Getting back in the swing of things after a variety of family/honeymoon activities Over the past couple of weeks I worked off-and-on on closing RT#48028 (PGE::P6Regex deprecation) I've also been following along with updates to rakudo and (to a lesser extent) PCT my tasks for this week are to review everything that has been done, re-start my blog posts to use.perl, and review/comment on kj++ PCT tutorial eor welcome back and congratulations. =-) Tene? thanks. pictures to come. er... Closed a few tickets, applied a few patches from RT. Wrist pain and a dead laptop will likely lead to very little work in the near future. .end Thanks. Before we loop back to allison, my report: not much, some minor cleanups to tcl, parrot deprecated features, minor rt cleanup. .end allison, you back? ready Go! =-) (have to retype after switching computers) - I've been working on the Strings PDD (renamed from "Character Set") - Talked with NLNet and the second half of the grant is on the way. - Quite a bit of time absorbed by OSCON this week (hopefully you got your acceptances). Launching this week. EOR Thanks for working on the nlnet issue! It was an invoice lost in the mail. Did I miss anyone's report before we go to questions? (anyone have a question to queue up?) I have a question for kid51: do you have a box you could install solaris/x86 on? (would that OS help you?) can anyone explain what's the difference between PARROT_HAS_SNPRINTF and PARROT_HAS_C99_SNPRINTF? and what to do about RT #51980? I think that's an Andy Lester question. Coke: I have had an offer of an account; I'm waiting for it to be set up. kid51: very good. (anyone who wants to offer up an account on something other than our core OSes to developers, I'd be happy to connect developers & hardware owners via will@coleda.com) That OS would be helpful: (a) because we don't get much smoke testing on it; (b) because the config code for solaris is the only stuff that uses 'trigger' subs and blocks further progress on testing of config step classes. Allison: What can we do about the PDD 17-branchh problem with config/init/hints/darwin.pm, causing warnings during config/auto/readline.pm? kid51: note that that isn't causing warnings on my osx/x86. kid51: try gcc 4 (... which may explain my success. =-) Then are you abandoning gcc 3.3? kid51: possibly I'm not sure we should support custom installations of gcc on Mac OS X. chromatic: custom, no. but there is a stock gcc 3.3 kid51: for 1.0 we guarantee support for 2 years prior to the release But mine isn't a custom installation. It's what was the vendor default for my ibook coke: stock gcc 3.3 works kid51: have you done a complete OS reinstall since you started having the problems? And I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Andy Bach reported it on list as well. like, in the past year? I upgraded from 10.3 to 10.4, no further. I don't think we got Andy Bach to set the MACOS_INSTALLATION_TARGET But I do have that set. If 4.0.1 is always available, it is definitely tempting to just use that and drop support for 3.3 kid51: right, but AFAICT your laptop has other problems kid51: Is this the same laptop that had the custom gcc install at one point? The only problem is that long before I joined Parrot, I attempted to manually build gcc 4. That didn't work with Parrot. But from Dec 2006 to this month, I used a simple workaround in which I explicitly passed the vendor C compiler and vendor linker. What frustrates me is that when a config step suddenly starts issuing warnings, we're not treating them as evidence of other problems. Is that the shell script you sent a while back? Yes. IIRC, you helped create that workaround at the hackathon in Chicago. kid51: I think we all agree that the config steps shouldn't be generating warnings. kid51: we're not treating as a deeper problem because testing the same feature on an same generation laptop with the same version of the OS and the same version of the compiler doesn't fail kid51: so all the evidence points to a problem on that specific laptop, not a wider problem We can followup on trying to troubleshoot this more in #parrot... Any other questions, notes, announcements? We should figure out the next targeted development branch and milestones. chromatic: do you mean the features for the next release? the next dev branch is concurrency next point release. allison: you're doing strings before security, neh? coke: security is already launched I'll make the concurrency branch today allison: I'll be getting another coffee to stimulate my few remaining brain cells. :| (meant to do it right after 0.6.0, but got sucked into OSCON) concurrency, awesome! I'll also delete the PMC branch, if it hasn't been deleted already. allison: thanks. chromatic: does that answer your question? % contingencyplan has joined #parrotsketch Yes, thanks. ok.
