<kid51> The only problem is that long before  I joined Parrot, I attempted to manually build gcc 4.  That didn't work with Parrot.  But from Dec 2006 to this month, I used a simple workaround in which I explicitly passed the vendor C compiler and vendor linker.
<kid51> What frustrates me is that when a config step suddenly starts issuing warnings, we're not treating them as evidence of other problems.
<chromatic> Is that the shell script you sent a while back?
<kid51> Yes.  IIRC, you helped create that workaround at the hackathon in Chicago.

<allison> kid51: we're not treating as a deeper problem because testing the same feature on an same generation laptop with the same version of the OS and the same version of the compiler doesn't fail
<allison> kid51: so all the evidence points to a problem on that specific laptop, not a wider problem
