EOR barney? Worked on removing PAST-pm and Parrot/HLLCompiler.pbc Applied a lot of patches from rotty reserving a question .eor I fixed a couple of crashes (and potential crashes that I introduced). % Coke has joined #parrotsketch and I did some profiling and optimization. Some of the optimizations need a lot more work, but we'll get three. also there Coke? my report was posted earlier. Infinoid? * I'm making a concerted effort to figure out all the GC stuff. * Added a test, fixed a couple of minor things that came up. * Otherwise, I didn't really get much stuff checked in. * I'm a bit bogged down on the communication side of things... I have some catchup to do. 1; particl[1e]? particle indicated he might be a bit late to PS % cotto_work has joined #parrotsketch pmichaud? * Added --encoding=fixed_8 encoding to HLLCompiler ** This enables NQP to compile Rakudo as fixed-length encodings (28% speed improvement) * Improved PAST::Block symbol table management * Refactored PAST::Var scope handling in PCT -- blocks can specify default 'scope' for PAST::Var nodes * Resolved problems with PAST compilation, closing RT #49758 * Fixed a few makefile issues * Suggested some documentation updates * Answered some Rakudo and PCT-related questions * Worked with jonathan++ on copy opcode, closing RT#47828 * Now working on Rakudo milestones document, more PCT/Rakudo updates * Video of my FOSDEM talk on Perl 6 is now available: http://video.fosdem.org/2008/maintracks/FOSDEM2008-perl6.ogg EOR rgrjr? * Deprecated stack ops, in two stages. * Rewrote hanoi.pir to be more PIR-like. .eor smash? no report, soz tewk? Okay, let's go to question time. barney, go ahead. * Infinoid takes a question ticket Can rotty have commit privs, for contributing to Eclectus? +1 cla? +1 (if cla) * particle arrives late http://www.perlfoundation.org/contributor_license_agreement barney, are you willing to mentor and give the "Do not break the build" lecture? Sure, I lecture about, break the build only once a month :=) tomorrow is official Break The Parrot day fine with me, 0.6.1 will fly in an hour or so :) particle, do you want to report now? sure. mainly, release prep and travel last few days release should be out the door soon. Infinoid++ and moritz++ for helping me, since 'make release' is broken on windows also, added glibc detection step to configure, and fixed gettext detection started adding gettext implementation, but i really need to figure out the make process next before doing anything else related to that latest update from GSoC is tpf will get 5 slots. we're still hoping for more, because we have 13 proposals we'd like to mentor .end Infinoid, you had a question. yes RT #47011 is about deprecating new_from_string. I'm curious whether that will happen soon. it causes test hangs with --gc=libc, so if it will remain around for a while, I'd like to start skipping tests or something. If we can do it in the next week, we should do it in the next week. does that translate to "go for it"? :) yes, after release is final ok, thanks. EOQ I have a question. What can we do to improve our velocity at hitting milestones? We're a couple of months behind now, and I'm concerned that we're piling most of that work on allison. take a list of what's pending, and ping the list for volunteers. clone you and allison? sounds like something a PM should ... crud. "go for it" although I'm behind on the milestones attached to me, I do plan to hit them in the next four weeks. The PMC milestone worked well from an implementation POV (though not deadline) because allison broke up the milestone into one-to-four hour tasks. I suspect something similar would work for other development milestones. agreed. let's wikify that if I can get a list of those tasks (RT? wiki?), I would like to help knock them out. The wiki's probably the way to go. I'd just like to make sure we don't block on any one person for more than a day or two. Another q: What is the position on Copyleft code in 'languages' ? http://mumble.net/~campbell/darcs/riaxpander/LICENCE Are you linking against that code? dig @xanadu bulgercapital.com It will be imported by the Eclectus compiler (oops; sorry) It's basically an ISC license, so as long as we abide by its terms, it's compatible with the AL 2.0, in my opinion. it's not exactly a copyleft license would rather not have anything other than AL 2 code in the tarballs but, this license is compatible with AL 2 allison: it occurs to me that languages/tcl may need to get a cleaning based on current license-think. so, it's legally okay well, ideally, all languages will ultimately move out of the default tarball so, they can be under any license they want no restrictions languages will be a separate package install barney: for now, include it if you need it cool * rotty will send his riaxpander patch RSN Is there anything else? I got no response on the continuation barrier issue. Last call. fix it, dear henry. ;) i wish. rgrjr: haven't even had time to look at the post, apologies allison: should I give you more time before I file the ticket? it'll make good reading on a long flight hard to answer, since I don't know what the ticket is about, but on general principles it doesn't hurt to have problems listed as tickets part of the post is asking how to file the ticket. i'm in no great rush. rgrjr: I'd keep the ticket brief (again on general principles) then I'm already in trouble. in any case, I probably won't be in a position to do much until Sunday. okay, I'll have time to read it on the plane allison: great. (EOQ, btw) Anything else? Okay, thanks everyone.
